2025 Southern Federation Foundation Scholarship Program
Congratulations on your achievements! The Scholarship Program is one of the pillars of the Southern Federation Foundation. The Scholarship Committee is pleased that you are applying for a Southern Federation Foundation Award.
If you have questions about eligibility or the application process, please reach out to the Scholarship Committee at sfslac.scholarship@gmail.com.
Requirements
Eligibility Criteria and Application Instructions:
Scholarships are only for graduating high school seniors with an 80 or above cumulative grade point average. There is no minimum GPA requirement for a Gift for Knowledge Award. The application for both awards is the same.
All applicants must enroll in a U.S. accredited community college, college, or university. Accreditation is determined by the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs. Note: The Southern Federation Foundation cannot award scholarships to programs outside the United States and reserves the right to withdraw an award to a program that is deemed ineligible by the Southern Federation Foundation's tax advisors.
All application materials must be completed by April 30, 2025, at 11:59 PM CDT.
All awards from the Foundation are to be used for educational expenses and are only paid directly to the educational institution in which the recipient has enrolled. The amount of funds to be awarded is determined annually by the Scholarship Committee and is dependent on funds available and the number of applicants. Submission of an application does not guarantee either award.
Application Instructions
Please read the instructions for each section carefully. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
A complete submission includes these 6 items: application, one required letter of recommendation from a SFSLAC member, one required recommendation form to be completed by a school official, transcripts, your club president's club membership verification (if applicable), and your senior photo.
All application materials must be submitted online. However, if your affiliated Club President, SFSLAC Recommender, or School Recommender has any issues with the online submission process, please have them email the Scholarship Committee directly at sfslac.scholarship@gmail.com and we can assist them in uploading or emailing the materials.
Bretagne Abirached and Rebecca Nunu are co-chairs of the Scholarship Committee and are available to answer any questions regarding the application process. Please submit questions to sfslac.scholarship@gmail.com.
Eligibility Note: The applicant or the parent or guardian of the applicant must also be a member of the Southern Federation of Syrian Lebanese American Clubs, either through an affiliated club or as a direct member. Membership must be in good standing for each of the following SFSLAC fiscal years: July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023; July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024; and July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025.
Scholarship Award Distribution Notes: The scholarship award amount will be sent in full to the educational institution listed on the application. The Scholarship Committee will direct the educational institution to distribute the award evenly between the first and second semester of the student's first year.
Requests to distribute scholarship awards over multiple academic years will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and only for awards of $8,000 or more. A request to distribute a scholarship award over more than one academic year must be made within 10 days of the award announcement via an email to sfslac.scholarship@gmail.com. The Scholarship Committee will review each request and will notify recipients of their decision.
If a student defers enrollment at a university, they must notify the Scholarship Committee via email at sfslac.scholarship@gmail.com within 30 days and provide an explanation for the deferment. The committee will review the deferral request for scholarship funds to be moved no more than one academic year on a case-by-case basis. The student must demonstrate that they applied for the scholarship based on the application requirements and intended to enroll in the appropriate semester in good faith as well as provide a reasonable and necessary explanation for the deferral (e.g., a medical emergency, a family emergency, etc.). If approved, the recipient must notify the Scholarship Committee of the accredited school to which the award should be mailed by July 1st of the following year, or the scholarship will not be awarded.
